What Is the CineStill 800T Halation Preset?

CineStill 800T is a legendary motion-picture film stock adapted for still photography. Its most recognizable characteristic is the intense red/orange halation that blooms around bright highlights: streetlights, neon signs, sun reflections, candles. This glow is caused by the removal of the rem-jet anti-halation layer during the film's conversion process, allowing light to bounce back into the emulsion and create that dreamy, cinematic aura.

Photographers and cinematographers love this look for its nostalgic, analog warmth. But shooting real CineStill 800T requires a film camera, development, and scanning. With our free CineStill 800T halation simulator, you can recreate this iconic aesthetic on any digital photo in seconds. Straight from your browser, with no upload to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

CineStill 800T is famous for its intense red halation around bright highlights. Unlike standard films that suppress this effect with an anti-halation layer, CineStill's rem-jet removal allows light to bounce back, creating that signature cinematic glow.
Yes, 100% free. No watermarks, no account, no limits. Use it on as many photos as you want.
Absolutely. The processed images are yours. There are no licensing restrictions on the output. Use them for client work, social media, prints, or portfolio pieces.
This digital simulation recreates the halation (light bloom) aspect of CineStill 800T very closely. It won't replicate the exact grain structure or color science of the film stock itself, but the iconic red glow around highlights is authentic and adjustable.
Of course! The preset is just a starting point. Every slider is editable. Lower the threshold to catch more highlights, increase spread for a wider bloom, or dial back red saturation for a subtler look.
Yes, the tool works on mobile browsers. However, for the best experience with large images and fine control over sliders, we recommend using a desktop or tablet.
Photos with bright point light sources work best: night street photography with neon signs, car headlights, sunset portraits with strong backlight, candlelit scenes, or concert photography. Daytime landscapes with soft light will show a much subtler effect.
