What Is a Double Border for Photos?
A double border, sometimes called a second border or double line border, is a framing convention borrowed from galleries and editorial print. A generous outer margin carries a thin inner line that separates the image from the background. Against a single border it reads with more depth, closer to a matted and framed print than to a digital crop.
It suits Instagram feeds, portfolios, gallery submissions, and print sales for the same reason: it makes a digital file feel tangible. The sharp corners keep it modern rather than nostalgic, which works well for architecture, street, portrait, and fine art work.
