Best Fujifilm Recipes for a Mediterranean Summer

Every summer I end up at least one weekend somewhere along the Mediterranean coast with my Fujifilm camera and a few custom slots to fill. The light down here is specific: hard at noon, golden by late afternoon, and completely different from anything further north. Packing the right gear for a trip matters, but configuring your custom slots with the right film recipes can saves your vacation memories. These five Fujifilm film recipes handle that southern light well and give the images the warm, slightly faded feel I'm looking for without any editing afterward for my summer travels.
Italian Summer: Mediterranean warmth
Italian Summer is my own recipe, and it's the one I reach for the most when I travel along the Mediterranean. It was born from walks through Italian coastal villages, lazy afternoons by the sea, and that specific Southern European golden hour. I wanted colors that felt warm without being oversaturated, like looking at vacation photos from the 1980s.
The recipe is built on Classic Chrome to create a nostalgic, film-like look without becoming too contrasty. The white balance is pushed toward warm golden tones, while soft Clarity and negative Sharpness keep things organic. Dynamic Range DR200 helps preserve highlights in bright Mediterranean light, where the sun can be brutal at midday.

| Film Simulation | Classic Chrome |
|---|---|
| Grain Effect | Weak / Large |
| Color Chrome Effect | Weak |
| Color Chrome FX Blue | Weak |
| White Balance | 7500K, +4 Red, -6 Blue |
| Dynamic Range | DR200 |
| Highlight | -1.5 |
| Shadow | -1.5 |
| Color | +3 |
| Sharpness | -4 |
| Noise Reduction | -4 |
| Clarity | -2 |
| Exp. Compensation | 0 to +1 |
| ISO | Start at 400 up to ISO 1600 |
When to use it:
Coastal scenes, narrow streets with colorful facades, golden hour portraits, beach days, and terraces at the end of the afternoon. Try overexposing (+1 EV) for that washed-out, sun-soaked feel on light sand and stone walls.
Last Summer Roll: a Mediterranean community favorite
Created by Emanuele De Luca.
Last Summer Roll is a recipe I discovered through Emanuele De Luca, an Italian photographer whose feed feels like a continuous Mediterranean afternoon. Built on Classic Negative, this recipe uses a strong Color Chrome Effect to push reds and blues into a denser, more film-like response, making it permanent on one of my X-E5 custom slots.

| Film Simulation | Classic Negative |
|---|---|
| Grain Effect | Weak / Small |
| Color Chrome Effect | Strong |
| Color Chrome FX Blue | Weak |
| Smooth Skin Effect | Weak |
| White Balance | Auto, +3 Red, -5 Blue |
| Dynamic Range | DR400 |
| Highlight | -2 |
| Shadow | +0.5 |
| Color | +4 |
| Sharpness | 0 |
| Noise Reduction | -4 |
| Clarity | 0 |
| Exp. Compensation | 0 to +1 |
| ISO | 640 to 1600 |
When to use it:
Daylight coastal photography, village street scenes, beachside cafes, and casual portraits. The Smooth Skin Effect handles people well under the warm southern sun.
1970's Summer: vintage European coastlines
If you want your Mediterranean trip to look like a postcard found in an antique shop in Sanremo, this recipe from Fuji X Weekly is worth trying. Built on Nostalgic Neg., it delivers a warm, heavily grained, low-contrast aesthetic that mimics vintage print films from the 1970s.
| Film Simulation | Nostalgic Neg. |
|---|---|
| Grain Effect | Strong / Large |
| Color Chrome Effect | Strong |
| Color Chrome FX Blue | Strong |
| White Balance | 6500K, -1 Red, -4 Blue |
| Dynamic Range | DR400 |
| Highlight | -2 |
| Shadow | -0.5 |
| Color | -2 |
| Sharpness | -2 |
| High ISO NR | -4 |
| Clarity | -3 |
| Exp. Compensation | +1/3 to +1 (typically) |
| ISO | Auto, up to ISO 6400 |
When to use it:
Sun-drenched landscapes, retro beach setups, old harbor piers, and ancient architecture where heavy grain and a muted color palette add character.
Velvet Dreams: for twilight magic
Once the sun dips below the horizon and the Mediterranean sky turns those shades of deep blue, pink, and purple, I switch to Velvet Dreams. This is my own recipe designed for that narrow 30-minute window of twilight. It uses Velvia to pull out rich, painted tones that other simulations completely miss.

| Film Simulation | Velvia |
|---|---|
| Grain Effect | Weak / Small |
| Color Chrome Effect | Off |
| White Balance | Auto, R+8, B+7 |
| Dynamic Range | AUTO |
| Highlight | 0 |
| Shadow | 0 |
| Color | +3 |
| Sharpness | 0 |
| Noise Reduction | -2 |
| Clarity | 0 |
| Exp. Compensation | 0 |
| ISO | Adjust manually |
When to use it:
Coastal horizons, seaside silhouettes against the dusk sky, and quiet ports when the first streetlamps turn on. Look for reflections on the sea or wet sand to double the impact of the purple tones.
Bonus: Classic Cinema for Mediterranean video
For capturing the movement of the sea, wind in the pines, or slow dinners by the coast, I rely on Classic Cinema. Built on Classic Negative with a flat tone curve and reduced digital sharpness, it gives footage a documentary aesthetic straight out of camera.

| Recording Mode | FHD 16:9 29.97P (enough if sharing on social media) |
|---|---|
| Alternative Mode | 4K 16:9 29.97P (higher quality, bigger file) |
| Stabilization | IBIS (if available) |
| Film Simulation | Classic Negative |
| White Balance | Auto R:+3 B:-6 |
| ISO | 200 - 640 |
| Dynamic Range | DR100 |
| Tone Curve (Highlights) | -1 |
| Tone Curve (Shadows) | -1 |
| Color | +3 |
| Sharpness / Details | -2 |
| High ISO NR | -2 |
| Interframe NR | AUTO |
| Chromatic Aberration Correction | Yes |
Before I post any of these to Instagram, I run the export through Whiteborder Lab to add a clean white border, or Film Border Generator for that classic photo-frame look with rounded corners, a small habit, but it keeps my grid consistent across an entire Mediterranean trip.
When to use it:
Cinematic travel vlogs, seaside clips, and family memories on the beach. Pair it with a 1/4 Black Pro Mist filter to soften the harsh Mediterranean midday sun.
